Fashion comes to museums in 2012

After the success of the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art last year, an increasing amount of fashion brands are planning to exhibit their work in museum halls in 2012.

2012 will see at least ten fashion brands convert from runway to museum beginning in March with Louis Vuittonin Paris from the 9thChristian Louboutin from the 28th at London’s Design Museum and a show on Diana Vreeland at Venice’s Fortuny Museum.
Savage Beauty was a museum phenomenon, drawing unexpected attendance levels of 661,509 visitors (myself being one of them,) landing as one of the museum’s top ten most visited exhibitions.
The exhibit caused huge queues, which entwined around the top floor of the museum and it was certainly worth the wait!
Each room revealed designs from different times in McQueen’s career, unveiling his life story with suggestions of why he created each piece.
The end of the exhibition saw the chance to buy one-off gifts decorated with images of McQueen’s creations, from postcards and calendars to an ornament of the infamous shoe fashioned by the likes of Lady Gaga in her video for ‘Bad Romance.’
If the following exhibitions for 2012 live up to Savage Beautystandards, they definitely won’t disappoint!
